Becton Investment Management – Environmental Sustainability
Becton Investment Management has committed to improving its average weighted NABERS Base Building Energy rating to 4.0 across its office portfolio by 2012, as a participant in the Total Environment Centre’s Existing Building Project. The graph below shows the weighted average NABERS Energy ratings for 2007 and 2008 showing an improvement from 2.31 to 2.88. It should be noted the ratings were completed by qualified NABERS assessors however they were not officially certified.
Becton is working towards the achievement of a portfolio wide NABERS Energy rating of 4.0 for its existing office buildings by 2012.
The individual performance of properties is summarised in the table below. In 2008, six properties achieved an equivalent rating of 4 stars or better.
Engagement with Tenants
Becton Investment Management is actively working with tenants to reduce both tenancy and base building energy and water usage. Recently green leases were entered into with tenants at 33 Allara Street, Canberra and 1 Devonshire Road, Sunshine. Discussions are also underway with the tenant at Health House, Darwin to further reduce energy usage. Becton is also an active participant in Earth Hour and encourages its tenants to also participate. Becton aims to increase its engagement with tenants further in the coming year.
